AVON AC
XMAS CLUB MATCH
Our annual Xmas match was fished by 20 plus members
on the Bristol Avon on Saturday with sections at Forest, Portman
Road, Scotland Road and Sainsbury's
After the very high water levels the river had
dropped just enough to provide some reasonable fishing on a cold
December day.
This year's winner was Devizes angler Kevin Rowels who became
the first winner of the Marcus Crook trophy with an impressive
24lb 12onz from the Forest section. Fishing the slack water on
the inside with bread punch on a seven meter whip Kevin kept the
roach and small chub feed through the five hour match by feeding
liquidised bread with white crumb.
Runner up was Bristol's Kevin Boltz with double figures of good
perch taken on worm close in and around 5lb of roach on maggot
for his net of 17lb 12onz Kev fished a peg at the top end of Scotland
road.
Third spot went to Melksham man Adrian McTiffin with 16lb 8onz.
Fishing at 11 meters Adrian caught roach on maggot over ground
bait.
Top six
1 KEVIN ROWELS 24:12
2 KEVIN BOLTZ 17:12
3 ADRIAN McTIFFIN 16:08
4 ANDY CRANSON 12:13
5 STEVE TREVETT 12:08
6 RICHARD WHITMARSH 9:11

Avon AC Club Xmas Match 5/12/21
Today was the Melksham Xmas match on the Bristol
Avon. The river was in good conditions but presentation was made
difficult for most anglers due to a strong cold and blustery north
westerly wind in the face. However, Kevin Rowles did well to overcome
the conditions and take advantage of a good draw on Sainsbury's
to catch 214 roach for 28lb 4oz caught on 6m whip to hand and
6mm punch over liquidised regularly fed nuggets on a 2gm float
in 7ft water and 16 hook.
Also well done to Sean O'Neill on the next peg up who also caught
on punch and had 160 fish plus a couple of 1lb perch for 22lb
and second place.
Last in the main money was Adrian Mctiffin with 16lb of perch
and roach from top peg on Scotland Rd so well done to him. Generally,
the river has fished well considering the conditions.
Top six
Kevin Rowels 28lb 4oz
Sean O'Neal 22lb 5oz
Adrian McTiffin 16lb 3oz
Gary Etheridge 14lb 7oz
Glen Witchard 13lb 12oz
Jerry Pocock 9lb 10oz
The club would like to thanks all those who helped to make this
an excellent event.
Percy and Rose Edwards for sorting the prises and running the
raffle
Sean O'Neal for pegging
Robbie Kepner and Adrian Mc'Tiffin running the Draw, pools and
results.
Also all at Spencer's club for hoisting us.
And not least our members who turned out to fish,
Thank you all.
